and MORE....
Church is a poet, spoken word artist, performance poet, writer, author, promoter, leader, organizer, friend and listener. Over the years Church has become a house and venue name. He breathes life into the mic, and captures all with his strong voice and word metaphors. He is no stranger to the big stages, performing with likes of Georgia Me, Def Poets Abyss, John Goode, J.Ivy, Farraji Salim, Sonia Sanchez, TIA, Red Storm, Maurice Henderson, and many more. Church is the receiver of the Harriette Bias-Insignares Award for Achievements In Poetry. His mission is to teach youth how to communicate emotions through the spoken word. He is a dreamer, but also a believer.
Church recently opened up for Minton Sparks www.mintonsparks.com at the Historic TPAC Theatre (Tennessee Performing Arts Center). He is first local, African American Spoken Word Artist to perform poetry in this capacity. His message and use of real life situations is sought after, not just locally but abroad. He has had feature performances in Knoxville, Atlanta, Chicago, Florida, Alabama, New Orleans, and South Carolina, with special appearances in North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Memphis and Mississippi. Church was a panelist as well as a performer at the Spoken Word Expo In St. Louis and Mississippi, a participant in the PAFF in Los Angeles in 2002. His work speaks for itself. Church has coordinated events for the Nashville Peace and Justice Center, Metro public schools, Nashville Christian Academy, and churches in the Greater Nashville area, as well as in Ala, and TN.
As an up and coming national spoken word artist, Church has taken crowds by storm. A deep but yet surface interaction for those listening, his message reaches out to youth of all ages, adults, Christians and non-Christian, activist and government. He has opened for Def Poets, as well as performing with them on various stages. His ability to intertwine topics, move the crowd emotionally and physically gives him a step up on most poets. His work has been apart of several compilation projects: Music City Poets, 360 of me (demo), Open Mic Session @ Kijijis, Witness to the Truth Mix Tape, a Collection of Poetry for (CATS). He has just finished his EP (Pieces of My Life).
After traveling all over, performing and speaking in various cities, Church returns to his roots. To hear his work, and to see a performance; you will have a new look on going to CHURCH
